v you completely missed the point in my opinion. why would they try to "capture the sound" of any country. they would jus end up making folk or folk inspired metal at best. they probably just drew inspiration from these places of death worship from around the world. and they did a fucking spectacular job at it. every track is so rich and can stand on its own firmly. my favorites are madagaskar and india

Great concept, although I agree it sometimes doesn't fit. But what band can fully capture even the sound of their home country, let alone those of Madagascar, India, China, and Mexico. Can't work out whether the band is special or a little derivative with stuck-on keyboards. Anyway, fun album; promising Part 2.

Also, it's a huge step forward from their EP and will most likely end up on my AOTY list.

Just that it's not really clear (to me at least) what they're always going for with the concepts. I know they listed some info about each ritual, but the songs don't always seem to match. For example, India - Towers of Silence seems to actually be the one of the busiest songs, even though based on the ritual it seems like it should be more subdued. Like I said, it's nitpicky, not important, and not a criticism on the music itself, just something I was minorly disappointed with/didn't quite always understand.

Death & Burial Rituals is a really good debut album. I have some nit-picky complaints about the concepts of the songs, but musically it's a fun, diverse listen.
